I think plants make really good company. They are able to capture pieces of your story, in a way. They have a language. It’s almost as if you get to tap into a kind of hidden knowledge, a kind of intimacy.
And I think that’s incredibly valuable. I honestly think I’m a better person for it. It’s almost as if, as I started gardening, I had an outlet for my empathy. I hadn’t known where to place it. I hadn’t known if I could place it in certain ways. Plants really give me that opportunity.
